Wall wine rack size guide: measure your space before you buy
A wall rack only works if it suits the wall, the room around it and the bottles you actually keep. A few minutes with a tape measure will tell you most of what you need.
This guide uses the dimensions and details published on our product listing. It is not a hands-on installation test, and we haven't measured individual slots or tested load limits.
1. Tape out the footprint
The listing gives the rack as 40 inches long and 22 inches high. Use painter's tape to mark a 40-by-22 inch rectangle on the wall where you'd like it. Treat this as the approximate footprint — bottles and glasses may sit a little beyond the frame.
Step back and look at it from the doorway, the sofa or the dining table. It's much easier to judge height and balance with the outline in front of you than with numbers on a screen.
2. Check depth and what sticks out
The rack itself is listed at 4.5 inches deep, so that's the minimum it will project from the wall. Bottle necks, bases and glass feet can stick out further than the wood, and you need room for your hand to lift a bottle or glass out cleanly. Hold a bottle and a glass up to the taped outline to see how far they would reach.
3. Look at what’s around the outline
- Light switches, sockets and thermostats inside or right next to the outline.
- Doors that swing towards the wall, and cabinet doors that open nearby.
- Walkways where someone could brush past the bottles or glasses.
- Chair backs and table edges if it will hang above a dining area.
4. Listed capacity versus your bottles
The listing says the rack holds up to six full bottles and nine regular thin-stemmed wine glasses. That is the maximum it is described for, not a promise that every bottle or glass will fit. Wide or unusually shaped bottles, and glasses with thick stems or wide bases, may not seat the same way. The slot sizes and bottle diameters aren't published, so if your bottles or glasses are out of the ordinary, ask us first.
5. Check the wall before you commit
The rack is wall-mounted and must be fully anchored with heavy-duty anchors and screws appropriate to your wall and the supplier's installation instructions. What counts as suitable depends on whether the wall is drywall, plaster, brick, concrete or has studs behind it — don't assume drywall on its own will do. Obtain and follow the supplier's installation instructions before mounting, and if you're unsure about your wall, ask a qualified installer. The listing doesn't say whether mounting hardware is included or give a tested weight limit, so we won't guess at either.
6. Expect some variation in the wood
The rack is made from repurposed wood, so grain, colour and small marks can vary from piece to piece and from the photos. That character is part of reclaimed material.
Measuring checklist
- 40 × 22 inch outline taped at the height you want.
- At least 4.5 inches of depth, plus room for bottles, glasses and your hand.
- No switches, sockets, doors or walkways in the way.
- Anchors and screws appropriate to your wall and the supplier's installation instructions.
- Your usual bottles and glasses checked against the listed capacity.
